Every day it seems another b-to-b media company shutters a magazine, fires staffers or cuts salaries. Behind the scenes, however, these businesses are quietly investing in areas they believe will grow when the recession recedes.
Breaking through the inbox clutter is no small feat, so it's not surprising that publishers spend a lot of time and effort to get their e-mails' subject lines and preview pane content just right.
Several b-to-b media properties declared dead by their former owners are being resurrected by others, who see an opportunity to position them to grow as the economy rebounds.
In its first-quarter financial results, Google reported that revenue generated through its AdSense programs fell 3% year-over-year. For b-to-b publishers, the quarterly revenue dip is nothing compared with the program's long-term decline.
