Smartphone sales surged worldwide in Q1

  • Egham, England—Worldwide smartphone sales totaled 210 million units in the first quarter, up 42.9% over the same period last year, according to data from Gartner Inc.

    In the first quarter, smartphones accounted for 49.3% of mobile phone sales worldwide, up from 34.8% in the first quarter of 2012.

    Samsung Group led mobile phone makers in smartphone sales, with a share of 30.8%. Apple Inc. retained second place, with an 18.2% share of market.
