New York—U.S. ad revenue totaled an estimated $153.4 billion last year, up 4.7% over 2011, according to revised figures from Magna Global.
The figure is up slightly over an October forecast of 4.6% growth for the year, taking into account robust Olympics and political advertising.
Excluding those two, U.S. ad revenue increased 2.7% over the previous year.
Digital advertising grew by 14.4% last year, up from Magna's October forecast of 12.8% growth.
This year, U.S. advertising is projected to grow by only 0.6% (in part due to a lack of spending on the Olympics and political races), down slightly from the October forecast of 0.8% growth. Magna pointed to continued economic uncertainty in explaining its revised forecast.
