Quad/Graphics acquires Vertis

Sussex, Wis.—Quad/Graphics Inc., a provider of print and related multichannel solutions for publishers, has acquired most of the assets of Vertis Holdings for $170 million.
Vertis provides targeted advertising and marketing solutions to retail and consumer services companies. The acquisition will strengthen Quad/Graphics' retail advertising insert, direct marketing and in-store marketing solutions, the company said.
Employees from Vertis will join Quad/Graphics, the company said, and the combined company will employ approximately 25,000 employees in more than 70 print-production facilities in North America, Latin America and Europe. Gerald Sokol Jr., CEO of Vertis, has been retained for a transition period to assist with integration initiatives and client introductions, the company said.
