  • Washington, D.C.—The American Advertising Federation has named Rance Crain, president of Crain Communications Inc., as one of its 2013 Hall of Fame inductees.

Mr. Crain is also editor in chief of Advertising Age, Crain's Chicago Business, Crain's New York Business and TVWeek.com. BtoB is also published by Crain Communications.

“For more than a half century, Rance has passionately advocated for the industry, recognizing the might of Madison Avenue to collectively self-regulate and make smart choices,” Laurence Boschetto, president-CEO of Draftfcb and chairman of the Advertising Hall of Fame, told Advertising Age.

“An ardent supporter of organizations that matter to our business, like the Ad Council and the AAF, Rance has also led his company's giving efforts, supporting organizations like the United Way, local Chicago theaters and food banks,” Boschetto said.

Mr. Crain started as a cub reporter at Advertising Age's Washington, D.C., bureau. He was named the publication's senior editor in 1965 and became editorial director of Crain Communications in 1971. He added the title of president in 1973.

Other AAF 2013 Hall of Fame inductees are Bob Giraldi, president, Giraldi Media; Philip H. Knight, chairman, Nike Inc.; Shelly Lazarus, chairman emeritus, Ogilvy & Mather; Byron E. Lewis, chairman emeritus, UniWorld Group; Gerry Rubin, co-chairman, RPA; and Bob Scarpelli, former chairman and chief creative officer of DDB Worldwide.

Among previous inductees to AAF's Hall of Fame are Mr. Crain's father, G.D. Crain Jr., founder of Crain Communications; his mother, Gertrude Crain; and Sidney R. Bernstein, former editor, editorial director and publisher of Advertising Age.

The 64th AAF Hall of Fame induction ceremonies and dinner will be held April 29 at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York.
