Akron, Ohio—Users of smartphones download entertainment apps most often, although social media, finance and productivity apps also are popular mobile downloads, according to a study by customer service technology company Virtual Hold Technology.

According to the study, 82.3% of smartphone users download entertainment or games apps, followed by social media apps (79.8%), news or reading apps (72.0%), financial apps (50.7%) and productivity apps (45.3%).

The study also found app limitations. For example, more than 70% of financial app users encountered problems attempting to complete tasks, and 80% said they wanted customer service feedback to assist them.

The study, based on an online survey conducted in May and June, received responses from 600 smartphone users.
