London—B2b marketing and publishing company UBM is considering a possible sale of its data services division, including industry-specific databases and magazines, in order to focus on conferences and trade shows.
As reported by The Telegraph and confirmed by UBM, Credit Suisse has been appointed to carry out a strategic review of UBM's data services division. In the event of a sale of the division—expected to be priced at about $400 million, according to The Telegraph—the company plans to invest the proceeds in events as well as its PR Newswire news distribution service.
UBM's data services division offers database services in the healthcare, technology, trade and transport, and forest industries. Its best known products include Vidal, which offers pharmaceutical information to physicians; Techinsights, which provides intelligence services to the electronics industry; and information for the aviation industry, including flight schedules and air cargo information.
