  • New York—U.S. marketers will spend $37.3 billion on digital advertising this year, an increase of 16.6% over 2011, according to a report from eMarketer.

Search will account for $17.6 billion in expenditures, followed by display ads (including videos) at $15.0 billion, eMarketer said. Earlier this year, eMarketer projected a slightly faster rate of growth in digital ad spending, but has revised its projections because of a rapidly maturing digital advertising market.

Google Inc.'s projected ad revenue of $15.4 billion, up 20% over last year, will account for 41.3% of total digital ad revenue this year, followed by Yahoo Inc. (8.4% of the market), Microsoft Corp. (6.0%), Facebook Inc. (5.8%) and AOL Inc. (2.5%), according to the consultancy.
