    North Dartmouth, Mass.—The largest U.S. companies are boosting their use of social media, according to new research from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.

    The study, conducted in August, found that 139, or 28%, of the companies on the Fortune 500 list have a public-facing corporate blog with activity in the preceding 12 months, up 21% from last year.

    Also, 365 (73%) of the companies have corporate Twitter accounts with a tweet in the past 30 days, an 11% increase since last year; and 332 (66%) of Fortune 500 companies are on Facebook, up 8%.
