“Unsolicited text promos are a waste of everybody's time and degrade your brand and offer. However, if you're selling software and one of your prospects checks in to a retail location through Foursquare or Yelp, that's a great time to connect with him or her.”

George Stenitzer, VP-marketing and corporate communications, Tellabs Inc.

“There are a few things we can do. First, make sure everything on the website is friendly to tablets or smartphones. We think tablets will be more important than smartphones when it comes to people browsing websites. For example, our home page fits onto the tablet very neatly. Second, also make sure the software is right. Flash isn't right for the iPad, so we go with HTML5 for our videos. Third, you should keep tabs on what devices people are using to come to your site.”

“It's really important for us to understand how and why our customers are using mobile in order to create the right experiences. We have a pretty broad audience. We have contractors on job sites, and more and more they are using mobile to take pictures and contact customer service. On the other side of the spectrum we have architects, and they are all about design and creativity. So anything we can do with apps to help our customers do their jobs better. We want to make it simple, easy to use, relevant and experiential.”
