Newspaper ad revenue declines again

Arlington, Va.—Overall newspaper advertising revenue declined in the first quarter to $5.18 billion, a drop of 6.86% compared with the year-earlier period, according to the Newspaper Association of America. Overall newspaper ad revenue has not posted a quarterly revenue gain since the second quarter of 2006.

Newspaper print revenue declined for the 24th consecutive quarter in the first quarter, falling to $4.36 billion, a decline of 8.2%. Online revenue increased 1.0%, to $816 million.
