McGraw-Hill's 'Architectural Record' wins ABM's Grand Neal Award

New York—Architectural Record, published by McGraw-Hill Cos., received the Grand Neal Award during American Business Media's 58th Annual Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards ceremony here today, recognizing excellence in b-to-b journalism.
The publication was recognized for its story, “New York: The Death and Life of a Great American City.” The story also was an individual winner in the category of Best Integrated Package (Class C).
Other Grand Neal finalists included dvm360 for iPad, dvm360.com, Advanstar (which also was an individual winner in the best use of mobile); “Firehouse 9/11 Anniversary Coverage,” Firehouse, Cygnus Business Media, an individual winner in the category of best integrated package (Class B); and “The Tablet PC Revolution,” Professional Builder, Professional Remodeler, HousingZone.com, Scranton Gillette Horizon, also a winner in the category of best subject-related series of articles (Class A).
Among publishers winning multiple individual Neal Awards were McGraw-Hill Cos, with seven; Advanstar, four; ALM, four; Crain Communications, four; and Hanley Wood, three.
Among other Neal Awards honorees announced earlier but presented today, Aric Press, editor in chief at ALM was named winner of the 44th annual Crain Award, given annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to editorial excellence.
The award is named for G.D. Crain Jr., founder of Crain Communications Inc., which publishes BtoB. The award was presented by Rance Crain, Crain Communications Inc. president.
BtoB was a Neal finalist in the category of best single issue of a tabloid or newspaper.
Marnette Denell Falley, content director at Advanstar Veterinary Group, won the McAllister Editorial Fellowship, which promotes the study of business media by placing fellows as teachers and advisers on the Medill Magazine Project at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. It is named for Donald McAllister Sr., longtime CEO of Geyer-McAllister Publications.
Tom Shoop, VP-editor in chief at Government Executive Media Group, took home the Timothy White Award, presented annually to an editor who displays courage, integrity and passion. The award is named for the late editor of Billboard.
Neal Awards were presented in the following classes:
