CNN reportedly in talks to acquire Mashable

Austin, Texas—Time Warner's CNN is reportedly in talks to acquire Mashable, a social media technology news site, according to reports by Reuters and The New York Times. The Reuters report speculated that the price for the deal could be around $200 million.

CNN last year acquired Zite, which produces an iPad that presents online news in a magazinelike fashion. That deal was reportedly in the $20 million-to-$25 million range. A CNN spokesman declined to comment.

Pete Cashmore, Mashable CEO, founded the company in 2005.
