Carter named CEO of ALM

New York—ALM, publisher of The American Lawyer, has named Bill Carter president-CEO. He succeeds William Pollak, who announced his resignation last year and had led ALM since 1998.
Carter was most recently senior VP of Thomson Reuters' small law business unit. Previously, he was an executive at legal information company LexisNexis and a consultant at Bain & Co.
Industry observers say Carter's focus will be on ramping up ALM's digital presence, a process started by Pollak. Carter “has a rich blend of strategic and operational skills that make him the ideal candidate for ALM,” Charles Siegel, ALM's nonexecutive chairman, said in a statement. “His leadership experiences in businesses serving our markets, especially with digital transformations, product development and value creation, will help accelerate ALM's further growth and profitability.”
