  • São Paulo—Reed Elsevier's Reed Exhibitions has acquired the Equipotel hospitality industry trade show and related events in São Paulo and Recife. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This acquisition is the latest investment by Reed Exhibitions in Brazil. The company in January bought out its partners to take full ownership of its former joint venture, Alcantara Machado. Now operating as Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado, the company operates 46 events in Brazil. (Reed Exhibitions started with five events in 2007.)

“Our intention for Brazil has been clear from the outset—maximize our opportunities in the Brazilian marketplace to create sustained, profitable growth in a dynamic developing market. We are doing this while continuing to drive strong growth in our North American portfolio,” said Chet Burchett, Reed Exhibitions, Americas, president, in a statement.
