UBM stays active in M&A, with an acquisition and a sale

San Francisco—UBM has acquired the annual 4G World telecom and wireless trade show from Yankee Group Research. UBM's TechWeb will operate the event, which attracted 8,500 attendees and 250 sponsors last year.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. UBM said last year's 4G World, held in Chicago, generated revenue of about $3.2 million.
Earlier this week, UBM agreed to sell its U.K. agricultural and medical general practitioner businesses, which include the Farmers Guardian brands, to Briefing Media. The deal, which is expected to close within six weeks, is valued at $15.8 million.
In a statement, UBM CEO David Levin said, “These transactions, together with the previous sales of France Presse, Consultant and other assets bring the total gross consideration from disposals announced since 1 Jan. 2011 to more than £25M [approximately $39.6 million]. These transactions also mark a further significant step in the transformation of UBM into a set of events and other b-to-b marketing, communications and data services businesses serving attractive global communities across a variety of media.”
