Washington, D.C.—The U.S. Postal Service, which has been aggressively courting commercial mailers with a variety of promotions, will reprise its 2D barcode promotion first launched last summer.
If approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission, this year's Mobile Barcode Promotion will offer a 3% discount on first-class and standard mail pieces, as well as flats and cards, during July and August if they include a QR code, Microsoft Tag or other 2D barcode that enables users to link to online content by “shooting” the code with their smartphones.
In an interview with BtoB, Paul Vogel, USPS president-chief marketing and sales officer, said the 2011 edition of the promotion was hampered by too many qualification strictures, and he anticipates this year's version will be more streamlined.
