Consumers increasingly reliant on smartphones for newspaper consumption

New York—Consumers are growing increasingly comfortable paying for digital content and increasingly reliant on their smartphones for consuming content, according to Deloitte's “State of the Media Democracy” survey.

The survey found that 20% of Millennials (consumers ages 23 to 28) had read their favorite newspaper on a smartphone in the previous six months, up from 9% a year earlier. Similarly, 11% of Millennials said using a smartphone was their favorite method of reading a newspaper, up from 3% a year earlier.

Additionally, the survey found that 42% of respondents had streamed or downloaded a movie on a digital device in 2011, up 28% from 2010. The study was conducted online in September and October. More than 2,000 consumers, ages 14 to 75, participated.
