    Chicago—Users of Web-enabled smartphones regularly browse the Internet, with almost a third preferring mobile search over search engines on their computers, according to a new study from Performics, a search engine marketing company owned by Publicis Groupe.

    The company's “2011 Mobile Search Insights Study” revealed that 57% of smartphone users access the Internet more than once a day, and 32% said they use mobile search more than search engines on their computers. Of interest to timed campaigns, 81% said they accessed the Web through their smartphones during the evening, with 80% reporting weekend use and 59% reporting use before work. Another 61% reported using mobile search at work.

    The Performics study, conducted online, polled 502 users of the mobile Web and mobile search in February 2011.
