  • Washington, D.C.—Online privacy legislation is expected to be introduced in Congress this week supporting the Federal Trade Commission's recommendation of a do not track mandate aimed at online advertisers.

According to a report in The Hill, Rep. Jackie Speier's (D-Calif.) proposed bill would mandate the availability of an Internet opt-out feature to block any tracking.

In addition, Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) is planning to reintroduce his privacy bill offered in the last Congress, allowing websites and advertisers to use customer behavioral data but to provide clear notice and an opportunity to opt out. It would also have required third parties to obtain consent before using such information.
