Framingham, Mass.—Information technology managers continue to be more involved than their business management counterparts in the IT buying process, according to the annual “2010 Role & Influence of the Technology Buyer” survey.
More than 2,400 IT and business executives responded to the survey, which was conducted online in May and June by IDG Enterprise, publisher of Computerworld.
The study indicated that the purchase process is decentralized within the typical IT department, with a mix of titles involved at each stage. An average of 13 people influenced major IT purchases at enterprise companies, according to the survey.
Those involved in the purchase process consulted a variety of resources: 70% said they use technology publications; 69% use technology content sites; and 68% use both peers and white papers.
