  • Mountain View, Calif.—Google has introduced a new search site, Google Realtime Search, for finding up-to-the-second messages posted by users of such social media sites as Twitter, Facebook and Google Buzz.

Located at www.google.com/realtime, the service shows results from typed queries in a continuously updating, scrolling news feed. The site is a standalone equivalent of hitting the “update” button on the left-hand rail of Google's regular query results page.

On its official blog, Google said the site offers such new tools as geo-targeting of news and discussions on topics related to a particular locale, and a conversations view to browse a timeline of tweets to see how the discussion evolved.

Last year, Google added real-time results from Twitter to its main search page, and earlier this summer Microsoft's Bing search engine began offering a social function that returned hot topics posted on Twitter and Facebook. Yahoo Search also shows Twitter results in its main search.
