  • Jupitermedia acquires Mediabistro.com

    Jupitermedia Corp., an Internet research company, has acquired Mediabistro.com, an online career site for media professionals. Jupitermedia agreed to pay $20 million upfront and up to an additional $3 million over two years. Mediabistro.com was founded in 1999 by Laurel Touby, who will remain with the company as a senior VP. The Web site includes job postings, educational courses, events, forums and original media content.

    Online newspaper audience up 7.7%

    More than 59 million people, or 37.3% of all active Internet users, visited newspaper Web sites during the second quarter, a 7.7% increase from the same period last year, according to a report from the Newspaper Association of America. The analysis was conducted by Nielsen//NetRatings. Newspaper Web site visitors generated nearly 2.7 billion page views per month in the second quarter, compared with a little more than 2.5 billion during the same period last year.

    R.H. Donnelley to buy Business.com

    R.H. Donnelley Corp., a Yellow Pages and online commercial local search company, said last month that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Business.com, a business search engine and pay-per-click advertising network, for $345 million in cash. The deal includes online properties Business.com, Work.com and the Business.com Advertising Network. Business.com has distribution partnerships with BusinessWeek.com, Forbes.com, WSJ.com and other leading business properties. The New York Times and Dow Jones & Co. had reportedly been in pursuit of Business.com. Upon completion of the deal, expected in the third quarter, Business.com founder and CEO Jake Winebaum will become president of Donnelley's interactive unit.
