CMP Technology announces major reorganization, cuts 200 jobs

Story posted: June 13, 2007 - 11:45 am EDT

Manhasset, N.Y.—CMP Technology Wednesday announced a major restructuring designed to sharpen its focus on digital media. The changes include the shuttering of several print titles and the elimination of 200 jobs.

Under the reorganization, CMP is shuttering Network Computing and Optimize, and folding their content into Information Week. It is also shuttering SysAdmin and will fold its content into Dr. Dobb’s Journal.

The circulation of EE Time is changing from 150,000 in print to 100,000 in print and 30,000 online. CMP is also reducing the frequency of CRN to biweekly from weekly and VARBusiness from biweekly to monthly. All of these changes take effect in July.

In addition, Call Center is being folded as a print title and, starting in August, will be strictly online.

"Over the past two years, we've been working on a transformation from a company with printcentric roots to a next-generation media company," CMP CEO Steve Weitzner said in an interview. "Up until now the changes have been iterative, through launching new properties and acquisition. But these are significant changes meant to accelerate the transformation."

As part of the restructuring, CMP is expanding its presence in a few of its key markets. InformationWeek will launch three monthly demographic editions: For IT, by IT; For CIOs, by CIOs; and Strategic Security.

In August, TechWeb will introduce bMighty.com, a Web site aimed at small and midsize businesses.
