Menlo Park, Calif.—Google Inc.'s new mobile version of Maps will include customer ratings, discount offers and other features usually associated with social rating services.
Mobile Maps' new features, which will be rolled out gradually, according to a statement from the company, will include reviews and ratings appearing next to restaurant query results, a capability provided by Zagat, which Google acquired in 2011. Users will be able to add their own rating and comments directly through Maps, the company said.
The new Maps, available initially only for smartphones running Google's Android operating system, will also tag businesses a user has searched for with a blue icon if the business has an offer available. Users can tap on the offer to use it immediately or save it to their account for later use, Google said.
