North Dartmouth, Mass.—More than one-quarter of the Fortune 500 were active in blogging last year, according to research from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. In addition, 365 of the Fortune 500 have active Twitter accounts, an 11% increase since last year. The top 10 companies on the Fortune list, including Chevron Corp., ConocoPhillips Co., ExxonMobil, General Motors Co. and, all post to their Twitter accounts consistently, the study reported. The study, which examined the blogging activities of the Fortune 500 companies throughout 2012, showed that the telecommunications industry had 40% of their companies blogging, while commercial banks, specialty retail and utilities had 25% to 30% of their companies blogging.
