Google search share hits 67%, as Bing also gains

  • Reston, Va.—Google Inc. increased its share of U.S. search queries to 67% in January, a level it was last at in November, while Microsoft Corp.'s Bing search engine reached an all-time high, according to online intelligence company comScore Inc.

    According to comScore's qSearch analysis of the U.S. search marketplace, Google's share rose 0.3 percentage point from December.

    Bing's 16.5% share of U.S. search queries, up from 16.3% in December, came at the expense of Yahoo Inc., which fell 0.1 percentage point to 12.1%, as well as Ask Networks and AOL Inc.. Since Yahoo's U.S. search function is powered by Bing, the Bing-Yahoo combo was virtually unchanged for the month, at 28.6%.

    U.S. search activity overall was up 11% January over December to almost 19.5 billion searches, and was 9.5% higher than in January 2012.
