Moscow—Russian Internet and search engine company Yandex has shelved its new Wonder social recommendation app after it was blocked by Facebook Inc.

Wonder, introduced this week as Yandex's first product for the U.S. market, is a voice-and-text activated app for Apple Inc. mobile devices that pulls up answers to natural-language queries rather than keywords. However, Facebook this week blocked Wonder's API access to its data, saying it violates Facebook's platform policies and causing Yandex to pull the crippled app from Apple's App Store.

Wonder is widely viewed as a competitor to Facebook's own Graph Search, which is not available on mobile devices. According to a statement released to The Next Web, Yandex said it will consider partnering with other social networks to bring Wonder back to the market.
