  • Waltham, Mass.—Four of five small-to-midsize businesses planning events in 2013 expect to increase their use of mobile technology as an event marketing tool, according to a survey by Constant Contact.

However, current adoption of mobile in support of events is still low, according to the online poll that drew 299 respondents in September. Only 16% said they distribute content, primarily schedules, to event registrants' mobile devices; 15% use smartphones for event planning, largely for registration and payment. Ninety percent of respondents said they'd like to learn more about using mobile technology for event planning.

The use of social media to promote events is also gaining momentum in the SMB space: 23% already promote events using a hashtag, with 26% planning to do so next year.
