Google extends lead in search market share

  • Reston, Va.—Google Inc. has increased its share of U.S. search queries, while Yahoo sites continued to lose ground, according to online intelligence company comScore Inc.

    According to the company's monthly “comScore qSearch” analysis, Google sites' U.S share of searches during September was 66.7%, up 0.3 percentage point from August. Microsoft Corp. sites had a 15.9% share, unchanged from August, and Yahoo Inc. sites were at 12.2%, down 0.6 percentage point from August.

    Slight market share gains were experienced by Ask Network, with a 3.5% market share, and AOL Inc. with 1.8%. Microsoft's Bing search engine also powers Yahoo search in the U.S.
