New York—Mobile devices are on track to be the dominant platform for viewing email by the end of this year, outstripping desktop and Web mail, according to a forecast by deliverability and reputation monitoring company Return Path Inc.
According to the company's report, “Email in Motion: Mobile is Leading the Email Revolution,” email opens on mobile devices grew 82.4% over the past year, with Apple Inc.'s iPhone and iPad together accounting for 85.0% of all mobile email opens.
For its study, Return Path used data from October 2011 to March 2012 from about 500 different clients, and examined more than 1 billion data points using its Campaign Insight tool that tracks which platforms and programs subscribers use to read email.
