New York—Twitter has acquired the blogging platform Posterous. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Both companies said that the Posterous Spaces blogging product, which enables social sharing with specific groups and blogging from mobile phones, email and apps, would not be shut down for the time being, but that that Posterous' staff would be working on future Twitter initiatives.

This week, Facebook Inc. shut down location-sharing and check-in app Gowalla, three months after acquiring the company primarily for its talent.
