McCurdy has been one of the few unequivocally successful b-to-b media executives backed by private equity in the last five years. He built Canon Communications, which he acquired with Apprise Media and Spectrum Equity Investors, to be focused around a single sector: advanced manufacturing. The strategy paid off with the sale last month of Canon for $287 million to United Business Media.
