Why we liked it: Marketing companies are notorious for marketing themselves poorly or not at all. With this inventive campaign, Catalyst, an upstate New York direct marketing agency, showed that marketing outfits can sometimes come up with a decent idea to promote themselves. In this case, Catalyst wanted to get noticed by and covered in direct marketing trade publications. After arranging meetings with editors, Catalyst employees brought to the sit-down a large metallic case that had printed on it: “Deadline emergency.” Inside the case was an old-fashioned phone, a “bat phone” (Holy hot line!) that could only be used to reach Catalyst. The effort went a long way toward demonstrating that Catalyst employees were always available to talk with trade publication editors.
