Publicis Groupe's first-half income tumbles

Story posted: July 24, 2009 - 1:19 pm EDT

Paris—International advertising holding company Publicis Groupe reported that its worldwide net income for the first half fell 13.2% compared with the same period last year, while global sales dropped 0.8%.

Publicis Groupe, which owns ad agencies Digitas, Leo Burnett Worldwide and Saatchi & Saatchi, reported net income of $237 million for the first half, compared with $273 million in the year-earlier period. It logged first-half revenue of $3.1 billion, compared with $3.2 billion in the same period last year.

In addition to the impact of the worldwide recession, the company attributed its performance in part to the bankruptcy of client General Motors Corp.
