  • London—The Economist Group, publisher of The Economist and CFO, reported a 26% increase in operating profit to a record $91.3 million in fiscal year 2009, which ended March 31.

The company attributed the gain to “strong circulation growth of The Economist to record levels and success in the group’s other businesses.”

Revenue increased 17% to $510 million. The Economist’s worldwide circulation grew 6.4% to 1,390,780, according to the July-December 2008 Audit Bureau of Circulations report. The magazine’s circulation in India was up 37%.
