eMarketer predicts online advertising will make up 10% of total ad spending next year

Story posted: March 31, 2008 - 12:54 pm EDT

New York—While the overall U.S. economy sputters, online advertising continues its momentum and will make up 10% of total ad spending next year, according to a new report from research firm eMarketer.

The report, “U.S. Online Advertising: Resilient in a Rough Economy,” projects that U.S. online advertising will reach $25.9 billion this year, representing 8.8% of total ad spending. Next year, online advertising will grow to $30.0 billion, which is 10.0% of projected U.S. ad spending, according to eMarketer.

“U.S. online advertising is proving to be far more robust than other media channels,” said David Hallerman, senior analyst at eMarketer and author of the report. He said that although the growth rate for Internet advertising will decelerate, it will remain in the midteens through 2011.
