Bishop steps down as CEO of Ascend Media, as Masseria takes charge

Story posted: December 11, 2007 - 12:13 pm EDT

Overland Park, Kan.—Cam Bishop has resigned as CEO of Ascend Media and been succeeded by Vicki Masseria. Bishop will continue to serve as chairman of the b-to-b media company.

Masseria was most recently president of CMPMedica U.S. Sally Shankland, who is now CEO, assumed those duites in August.

The changing of the guard at Ascend comes as the company continues to shed its assets. Earlier this year, it sold its Stagnito food division to BNP Media and in November shuttered three publications: Family Practice Recertification, Internal Medicine World and Physician’s Money Digest.

Masseria said she wants Ascend to refocus its efforts on its health care and medical education properties, which include The American Journal of Managed Care, Cardiology Review, Resident & Staff Physician and SynerMed Communications, which produces continuing medical education programs in a number of therapeutic areas.

“It’s a challenging market, but we’ve got strong brands with unique propositions,” she said. “It’s time to roll up my sleeves and get my hands dirty, which is my management style.”
