  • Washington, D.C.—The U.S. Postal Service plans to offer a postage discount to online merchants that includes 2-D barcodes as part of their direct-mail campaigns leading up to and through Cyber Monday, four days following Thanksgiving this year.

The USPS' 2012 Holiday Mobile Shopping Promotion reprises a similar program aimed at commercial mailers currently under way.

The program will offer online merchants an upfront 2% postage discount on first-class and standard mail letters, flats and cards that include a mobile barcode or print/mobile technology, such as a QR code, that can be read or scanned by a mobile device and leads the mail recipient to a mobile-optimized shopping website.
